1. What is The Friday Night Swing Dance Club? The Friday Night Swing Dance Club (FNSDC) is a not for profit 19+ year old social dance club whose goal is the promotion of dancing (All Dancing) for fun! 2. How often do you meet? We meet EVERY Friday night at The American Legion Hall in Towson. This is a beautiful huge wood floored (No Post) Heated and air-conditioned ballroom with tons of free parking. Located at 125 York Rd, Towson MD 21204 ( Just off of York Rd, Behind Papa Johns, Between Towson University and The Baltimore County Library)
We also teach lessons in Swing, Ballroom and Latin Dances (All Levels) Every Weekday evening Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. at The American Legion in Towson: (Convenient to Baltimore City, Baltimore, Harford, Carroll and Cecil, Counties) As well as Thursday in Anne Arundel County area in September (a great Hall at The American Legion in Severna Park:
3 How many people attend? As stated Above 200+ People dance Every Friday Night to great Bands! between 50 and 150 people are taking some level of group lessons which start at the beginning of every month! (Click here Please JOIN February's Great Dance Classes Starting THIS WEEK
4. What is the age of people who attend? and/or Is there anybody my age? Yes! You will find many people your age at our Lessons and Dances! ALL ages between 16 and 100 attend, and enjoy dancing together! I know this is hard to believe, but every Friday you will see people 80+ years old dancing with 20 year olds. Try it you will like it much better than dancing with the same old same old or sitting at a table wishing you were dancing.
5. What do I wear? The Dress for our dances is casual! Here are some suggestions: Shoes for both men and woman should slide on the floor and stay on your feet! Hard soles (leather) are the best for all of our locations! Ladies: You may wear anything in which you feel comfortable dancing. Most ladies wear light weight (summer) skirts or dresses. There is no "dress code" however if you wear work out clothing, jeans or long sleeve anything you will be VERY warm and uncomfortable! We suggest light weight summer attire even in the dead of winter. Just layer so you have warm dry clothing in which to return home. Jewelry which is not TOTALLY and permanently affixed to your body usually ends up falling off and being flattened. (200+ pairs of feet can really do some damage) Never wear dangly necklaces or scarf's Men: short sleeved shirts and light cotton pants are the best! Think Summer! Ties will choke you, If you arrive wearing one I would suggest immediate removal. The same with jackets! HOT
6. How much does Friday cost? What's included? How much are Lesson? Fee for Friday dance is $12: includes a Beginning Swing Lesson which starts at 8:00 Sharp, Dance from 9:00 to 12:00 mid-Night with different great band EVERY week, and Light Refreshments (cookies, pretzels, corn chips, and sodas) No alcohol or smoking permitted in the Ballroom. (Please DO NOT BYOB ) If you wish to drink you are invited to go to the Legion bar downstairs. However, no alcohol can be brought upstairs! BTW bar has great people and great prices! For our regularly attending dancers we sell a discount card ($25) which gives the Card Purchaser Only, a $2 discount to ALL Dances (Yes this does include our EVERY Wednesday Dance. The 2011 Card is NOW on Sale Friday nights and is good until September 1, 2011 All Cards regardless of when they were purchased expire The first week in September 1, 2011

Fee for Weekly Classes: All of our Group Classes are $10 per hour if you pay the entire 4 weeks at the start of the lessons.... $12 per hour if you pay as you go ( Note: we do have 1.5 and 2hour Classes and they are still $10/hr if you pay for the entire session or $18/ 1.5 hour & $24/2hr pay as you go)
7. I'm Single, am I still Welcome? The FNSDC is probably the best kept secret destination for singles, singles groups and Meet-Up groups in The Greater Baltimore area. Better than 80% of the people who attend are single and feel comfortable enough to come to dances alone! (No Alcohol; definitely NOT "The dreaded Bar Mess") Over the past 21+ years many many singles have met married and yes, even had families. The best part about this singles destination is it is NOT "A SINGLES GROUP OR CLUB" meaning there is NO pressure. If you ONLY want to dance come and join us you will find over 200 people who just want to dance as well. In doing so you just might meet your soul mate. If you already have a soul mate our dances will drawl you closer!
8. I just read the above and I am married or I have a significant other. Are we Still Welcome? Absolutely, about 20% of our attendees are coupled. The best part about our dances is people change partners! Our closest couples find dancing with other people both rewarding and a big relief from dancing with the same person who does the same moves and makes the same mistakes over and over. Yes, it is a safe environment and your life partner will not disappear or be hit on by some drunk. Best of all your partner will become a MUCH better Leader or Follower and will actually become a much better dance partner for you.

2. One place I took Lessons had several lessons running at the same time in the same small room which was very distracting. Also, we could not dance to music because it would disturb other lessons. Dose your group run several lessons in the same room?
NO! ALL of the lessons we teach, including our private lessons and dances, are the only function happening in the room. Many of our lesson rooms are very large (American Legion Hall on Monday Tuesday & Wednesday) and we only have one lesson/hour/location.
3. I see lessons being taught everywhere, what makes The FNSDC lessons special? PLEASE read above! The most important thing to think about when taking dance lessons anywhere is what DO YOU wish to accomplish?? ALL of the FNSDC lessons are taught with the goal of making YOU a "Good" SOCIAL dancer. The simplest definition of a 'GOOD" Social Dancer is one who can ask and dance, with ANY partner, to ANY music/dance and have a great time. (You Know, FUN) Good Dancers Can, and do, make their partner feel great and enable them to have fun as well! If this is YOUR goal then the inexpensive FNSDC lessons are for you! If, however, your goal is to compete, concentrate on competitive dances and or just ONE dance, spend Thousands of dollars, hours and hours in a studio, with the intention of being better than everybody in the world, you may start with our lessons (as Many Many people do/have). But, our lessons are NOT for you! Our simple philosophy is: Learn the basics, Then Just Get Out and Dance and Have Fun! Note: We have started well over 100,000 dancers over the last 20 years. Some have gone the competitive and one dance route! We laud their tenacity and applauded there successes!
So, what so special about the FNSDC lessons? We just want YOU to learn the joy of dancing with other people for fun! The proof of this is our 20+ year old Friday Night Dances with bands and 200+ people having FUN! As one of our first timers said: "I have never laughed and smiled so much in my entire life" If this is how you want to dance the rest of your life take our lessons and get started!
4. I took your class once on Fridays, Why do I need to take your weekly Lessons? We, all of our dancers, Thank You for coming early and taking our Friday 8:00 Beginning Swing Lesson. At the very least you have some idea of what Swing dancing is all about. Then in the next three hours you noticed that there is a great deal more knowledge which is needed to become a "Good" swing/social dancer. Also, we are sure you observed there are indeed many of other dances beside Swing. If the prospect of Social dancing excites you then you should join our four week lessons and learn learn learn. An accurate analogy would be say Golf or Tennis. Would you expect to become superior at these or ANY sport with just a single one hour lessons? The difference between Golf and Tennis is you CAN become a relatively good dancer IF you take a few 4 week sessions of Beginning and Level 2 dance lessons! All we ask is that you learn to dance smoothly and safely the basics of swing and the other dances and then you are on your own. Note: If you are unable to take our lessons during the week then we strongly suggest you take the 8:00 Friday Beginning lesson Over and Over again until you actually become a SMOOTH dancer. Then, when you get the chance, Take BEGINNING Lessons during the week!
5. The Last time I tried to learn to dance the instructor went Toooooo Fast! Do your Classes move at a speed I can keep up with and actually Learn to dance???? Yes and Yes! Our lessons are taught by three of the most easy going and patience people you have ever met. They have a combined 75+ years of teaching, the shortest being 21 years. If they were not patience there would not be anyone dancing at the FNSDC and they would not still be teaching ! Ladies, look around on Friday nights, where have you EVER seen so many men dancing???? Our lessons always move at the speed of the middle of the class. Yes, sometimes this seems too slow for some, however, Our question to you speed demons is, "Which would you like, to move too fast and lose better than 1/2 of your prospective partners? Or exhibit some patience and have GOOD partners? It is extremely rewarding to all three instructors to go dancing on Friday Night and see 200 to 300 people dancing and having a great time and know that WE some how helped them find The Joy of dancing for FUN! If you haven't taken lessons with us YOU can join at the Start of each month for our inexpensive (as little as $10/hr) Lessons at different levels! Simply put if you have the desire to dance, WE would LOVE to teach you! Even if you have to take our beginning four week classes 10 times! We know the 11 you will get it and dance happily the rest of your life.
